Winter Propane Gas Delivery Safety

No matter the weather conditions, our propane delivery truck drivers work around the clock to ensure your propane home is warm all winter. After a snowstorm, we ask that all of our residential propane customers plow or shovel their driveways and sidewalks. This not only keeps you and your family safe, it also allows our trucks access to your driveway so they can safely make a propane delivery.

If your tank is underground, please shovel a path to the tank as well. The easier it is for us to reach your tank, the faster we can help fuel your home. It also adds an extra ounce of safety so our drivers don’t risk slipping or tripping on snow or ice while servicing your tank. The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) recommends these other propane safety precautions before a winter storm hits:

• Make sure your propane tank (whether it’s above or below ground) is marked with a flag, pole or stake that’s higher than the average snow cover depth for your area. This makes it easier to find during snow removal or propane delivery.

• Have an adequate supply of propane in your tank. Contact us before or after a storm for delivery.

• Know how and where to shut off the outdoor propane supply, indoor propane appliances, electricity and water.

• Never store or place a propane cylinder indoors or in an enclosed area such as a basement, garage, shed or tent.

• Make sure that you and your family knows what propane smells like in case of a leak.

• Consider installing a propane gas detector for additional safety.

• Create an emergency preparedness plan and review it often with your family.

As always, if you have a residential propane emergency or need a repair, contact us immediately. Stay warm and stay safe this winter with ThompsonGas!
